The Job fair and Why I care

On October 15th, Farmingdale will be hosting another job fair. To many it mgiht seem irrelevant. But for me, a graduating senior , it could mean the world, literally. Every year I have been at Farmingdale, which is three now, I've watched these dorky students all dressed up in their best sunday clothes, checking out job fairs. It never pertained to me, so I always looked past it. Wrong move. I personally know several, yes, several students who graduated just last May who now have full time jobs, building careers, from the networking they did at previous job fairs. This year, I have my resume` ready to go. Even if you have a year or two or even just started at Farmingdale,it might be beneficial to go. I regret not going the last few opportunities I had, because maybe I could have snagged an internship, or met other potential employers who could have been tracking my progress until I graduated. And look, now I am graduating and have made little to no connections. Yes, it is very lame to say, "it's not what you know, but who you know," but, in today's day in age, especially with our wounded economy, it's the truth. My best advice for everyone; is to go, wear something nice and smile a lot. You never who you might meet and what they could offer. So look for me, the dork in the Black and White pinstripe suit, my hair parted to side and with a smile that could light up the entire campus, becuase I know its a tiny investment of time and the smartest thing I could possibly do that afternoon!
